Hannah Nguyen Excel 3 Project Overview

Introduction to Excel 3 Project:

This page will be looking over the final Excel project of this semester, spring 2024, known as the Excel 3 Project. It focuses on students finding their own large data set in order to do this project. In which I picked one that phone about phone purchases in India to see what type of phones are popular there. Students needed to use their previous skills learned from the other projects to complete this one. It was up to the students and their creativity to present their information using the skills they had learned. At the end of the project, the students must complete a Word document on what they did on their project too.

The goal was to demonstrate the skills they had learned, make sure the information made sense, and make sure they completed all the skills asked for on the rubric. The goal was for the students to show understanding of what they learned. With that, I was able to do this by using math functions, wrapping titles, color-tabs, naming them, sorted data, date functions, naming the range, using lookup, iferror, borders, fonts, colors, merging and centering, conditional formatting, etc. The list down below will explain it more in detail.

This project is meant to demonstrate all the skills learned throughout the semester without any assistance. Combining everything to make a data set make sense, be able to analyze it, and make the information come through efficiently.

Detailed Excel Formulas, Skills, and Techniques used:

  • MIN Function
  • SUM Function
  • Division Functions
  • Data Validation restricts some information to be entered and allows error messages to appear
  • date function making the data appear the data that it is opened
  • Name Ranges
  • Vlookup to find information from the other worksheets
  • Iferror to show if the information can not be found it wrong code is up in
  • Formatting making sure everything looked right, like merging, fonts, colors ,and etc.
  • Merging cells to make them bigger
  • Comments on different cells
  • Worksheet Protection to make sure that others can alter the information besides the area that can change the codes
  • Charts show to create them and understand how to manipulate them to show correct information
  • Pivot Tables & Charts
  • Filters to get information easily instead having to sort through it myself
  • How to create codes lookup
  • Text Box to analysis the information found
  • Sorted data to alphabetized names
  • Shapes knowing how to enter shape
  • Named Data this allowed it to reused in functions like Vlookup
  • If Function I used this to tell if there was a loss of money, so that the information has a logical comparison

  • Conclusion:

As a result of completing this project, I learned that my knowledge of how to use Excel grew significantly. I came into this class not knowing much about how Excel worked, and I did not have that much exposure to the application before hand. But with this class, my understanding is immense, which I am proud of, and I know that my skills can and will be later used in other classes and even in my future career. In this project, the thing I found challenging was finding a data set that I found interesting to analyze, but in the end, I was able to find something I liked. Upon completing this project, I found myself being able to demonstrate my skills well and remember how to use them. This project helped me solidify my understanding.
