Hannah Nguyen Tableau 1 Project Overview

Introduction to Tableau 1 Project:

This page will be looking over the first Tableau project, Spring 2024, known as the Tableau 1 Tutorial project. Tableau is a piece of software that helps with the visualization of data sets. With that, it analyzes and displays data. This project largely focuses on the analysis process. Allowing for overviews of the data to be understood with worksheets, dashboards, and storyboards.

The goal was to learn how to use Tableau and its various functions. The goal overall was to be able to find trends and make recommendations through analyzing the information. At the end, being able to explain and put together all the information given through graphs, charts, maps, etc.

This project is meant to demonstrate all the skills learned throughout the semester with assistance. So, in Tableau 2, project data analysis and processing of the data sets can be done without any assistance.

Detailed Tableau Skills and Techniques used:

  • Importing data
  • Creating new sheets and naming them
  • Dragging information to the column and row area in order to analyze the information
  • Adding filters to help develop the information better, which shows up on the right side of the screen view
  • Adding color to the cards in order to differentiate the information
  • Tooltip to help change the information that was displayed
  • Changing the Measures so that the information makes sense, sum to ratio, etc
  • Creating a Map to allow information to be displayed in a different way, especially by region
  • Changing color of the different regions depending of the profits
  • Duplicating tabs
  • Saving information as Packaged Tableau workbook so that information can be displayed correctly
  • Understanding of how to filter list and exclude and include information
  • Creating subcategories so that the information becomes more specific
  • Creating a dashboard to customize information from the sheets to tell a story
  • Removing filter icons and adding filters to float and have different functions like multiple choice or slider, so making it interactive
  • Making a story and building it to tell the information in a way that flows and makes sense from the beginning to the end of the sheets
  • Changing font colors and size so that it is easily readable
  • Creating textboxes on the story pages so the information can be described further
  • Understanding how to add captions correctly
  • Understanding how to drag sheets and dashboard into view
  • Changing the way the information is displayed from bar chart to map and more differs types of charts and graphs

  • Conclusion:

With this project and completing it, I was able to learn and concrete my learning of previous Tableau skills. I came to this class knowing some of the skills, but overall, it was not that good. So this project taught me how to use the techniques in the process, and with that, I was able to learn how to analyze the charts, graphs, and maps. With less familiarity using this application, it was harder to understand how to analyze and use some functions, but with the tutorial, it was easily understood.
